Art

Vision

At Ewanrigg Junior School, we believe that every child has the potential to be a remarkable artist. Our vision is to nurture confident, expressive, creative, and imaginative individuals who can explore the world of art with enthusiasm and joy. We want our young artists to feel inspired by the works of famous and local artists, sculptors, artisans, and architects, as well as by their peers. By appreciating, critiquing, and learning from diverse artistic expressions, they will develop a deeper understanding of art’s rich tapestry.

We encourage our artists to be open-minded, fostering a respect for the artwork of different cultures. This awareness not only enriches their own creative journey but also promotes a sense of community and connection with the wider world. We aim for our students to be articulate, equipping them with the appropriate art vocabulary to discuss their thoughts and feelings about art with clarity and thoughtfulness.

Our curriculum is designed to ensure that our artists are knowledgeable and skilful. They will have the opportunity to plan, produce, and evaluate their work using a variety of mediums, including painting, drawing, printing, sculpture, textiles, and collage. This hands-on approach empowers them to express their unique visions while honing their technical abilities.

We also want our artists to be risk-takers, encouraging them to embrace failure as a stepping stone to creativity. By experimenting with their own artwork, they will learn that mistakes can lead to unexpected and beautiful outcomes. Most importantly, we want our artists to have fun! Through engaging and memorable activities, we aim to make their learning experiences enjoyable and successful, fostering a lifelong love for art.
