Chair of Governors' Welcome

Hello, my name is Yvonne Frost and it is my absolute pleasure to be the chair of the Governing Board for Ewanrigg Junior School. I started my Ewanrigg Junior School journey as a small, scared and impressionable Year 3, I loved the time I spent at Ewanrigg Junior School as a pupil leaving Year 6 happy and confident.

Fast forward just a ‘few’ years and I find myself looking for a junior school for my son. We attended an open day where we looked around the school and met the teachers. Walking through the doors felt like I had returned home! With their vision of ‘Be All You Can Be’ and their mission to ensure that each child will have the opportunity to ‘Look, Listen, Learn and Laugh’ I knew it was the place for my children. I soon become a member of the Parent Teachers Association and then Governing Board.

I am Vice Chair on two committees with the Board and most recently co-chair of the Board.

My two boys have now left Ewanrigg Junior School but my heart remains there. I believe in everything the school stands for within the community and how the school endeavours to provide children with the best of education within a calming, safe environment in which they can “Be all they can be!"

Governors play a pivotal role in the life of the school through strategic direction, agreeing policies and ensuring a high quality education for your child. Governors would welcome your views whether they are positive or negative.

Governors can be contacted by:

  • E-mail via the school website.
  • The school will pass on any letters.
  • The Chair can be contacted in writing c/o Ewanrigg Junior School.
  • The Clerk can be contacted by email clerk@ewanrigg.cumbria.sch.uk or, in writing c/o Ewanrigg Junior School.

During the Spring term you will be issued with a questionnaire and we would very much appreciate a response from you so that we can target provision and continue to improve our service to you.

On 1 April 2023 local government in Cumbria changed.

The six district councils and Cumbria County Council were replaced by two new unitary authorities and a fire and rescue service; Cumberland Council, Westmorland and Furness Council and Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service.

Please choose one of the links below to go to your new council or fire and rescue service site:

The role of the maintained schools governance guide is to:

  • Distinguish between governance in academy trusts and in maintained schools (with separate guides for each).
  • Provide clarity about the board’s role in relation to legislative and contractual requirements.
  • Provide content that is clear, concise and avoids repetition.
  • Enable stakeholders and the sector to take more ownership of best practice over time.
